Description

Smith Mountain Lake is a very large lake crawling through the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southern Virginia. It fills many valleys resulting in over 500 miles of shoreline and many hundreds of coves and offshoots. The thick forest is everywhere, and though much of the lake is developed there are still large swaths of undisturbed beach and woodland.

Experiencing the lake is something best done by boat. Water skiing, wakeboarding and speed boating are local favorite activities and these watercraft are readily available for rental if you don't have your own. Small to mid-sized groups will find houseboat rentals especially convenient, making the entire lake available for recreation. Combine the two classes of boat and you're in for a party.

Smith Mountain Lake is a very popular fishing destination and the locals work hard to keep it stocked with largemouth, smallmouth and striped and black bass, sunfish, crappie, white and yellow perch, white, channel and flathead catfish.
