Welcome to the Petoskey Area - Your Guide to All Things Petoskey Area!

In the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula lies the Petoskey Area. Made up of seven unique communities - Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Boyne City, Boyne Falls, Bay View, Bay Harbor, and Alanson - this region is a place to nourish your mind, body and soul with incredible natural beauty, treasured traditions, and small-town experiences. 

 

Stay

The Petoskey Area in northern Michigan is home to a variety of accommodation options in Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor, Bay View, Alanson, Boyne City, and Boyne Falls. Hotels & Motels
The Petoskey Area has a wide range of full-service hotels and motels located throughout the region. Depending on what your preferences are for your hotel, you should be able to find everything you're looking for with options that include an indoor pool, hot tub, on-site dining, a quaint fireplace lounge, or complimentary breakfast.


Historic Hotels & Inns
Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Bay View historic hotels and inns date back to 1886, a time when life flowed at a slower pace. In Petoskey you can experience the Perry Hotel, built in 1899, with 75 uniquely elegant guest rooms and a casual pub with live entertainment, and outside terrace dining. Harbor Springs' mainstay is the historic Colonial Inn that was established in 1894. Now, guests can enjoy their oudoor pool, complimentary breakfast in their Main Inn Dining Hall, and the new 1894 Bar for the perfect nightcap. Bay View is a National Historic Landmark and famed Chautauqua-style community with two historic inns, Stafford’s Bay View Inn and the Terrace Inn. Breweries & Spirits

The Petoskey Area is home to 9 unique craft breweries to try including Petoskey Brewing, Beards Brewery, and Elder Piper Beer & Cider to name a few. For locally distilled spirits, visit Gypsy Distillery in Petoskey or Muskrat Distilling in Boyne City. Each of these offer their own unique flavors and tasting room experiences.

Area Beaches

The Petoskey Area is home to some of the most picturesque views in northern Michigan with inviting beaches along Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay and area inland lakes. Enjoy a family-friendly day in the sand, a peaceful evening watching a million-dollar sunset, or hunt for the famous Petoskey stones along the shorelines.

Petoskey State Park

Petoskey State Park is located between Petoskey and Harbor Springs and is one of the most popular beaches in the area. This mile-long sandy beach lies on Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay and is also home to hiking trails, sand dunes to explore, modern restrooms, and picnic areas. Please note that Petoskey State Park will be closed for upgrades starting in September 2025. Visit the State of Michigan DNR webpage for more details.

Zorn Park Beach

Located in downtown Harbor Springs, Zorn Park Beach is family-friendly, clean, and has a lifeguard on duty during select summer days. There's a designated swimming area, a floating raft, and a grassy area for picnicking. Here, you're just steps away from downtown Harbor Springs shops and restaurants.

Young State Park

Just northwest of downtown Boyne City, Young State Park sits on the shores of Lake Charlevoix, dubbed one of Michigan's most beautiful inland lakes. The park features sandy beaches with a swimming area, and various hiking trails. It's a favorite for families, kayakers, and anyone looking to enjoy both beach and forest in one destination.

From well-known places to hidden gems, the Petoskey Area is full of great attractions.

Petoskey Stone Hunting

The Petoskey Stone is Michigan's state stone and are actually fossilized remains of ancient coral polyps that lived about 350 million years ago. Today, these stones are a fun, sometimes challenging thing to search for along the Petoskey Area's lakeshores.

Petoskey Stones are found wherever rocks turn up throughout the area and are most easily found when wet. However, the best hunting places are the beaches at Petoskey State Park and Magnus Park - City Beach.

Little Traverse Bay Ferry

Hop aboard a boat ride to experience the Petoskey Area from the water with the Little Traverse Bay Ferry Co.! Take advantage of their Water Taxi service to navigate around Little Traverse Bay without a vehicle - the ferry will take you to ports in Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Bay Harbor. Or embark on an evening excursion with a 90-minute Sunset Cruise that takes you around the Bay to revel in one of the area's million-dollar sunsets.

Bay View Association

Celebrating its 150th season in 2025, this century-old seasonal Victorian community lies just east of Petoskey is home to over 500 colorful, "gingerbread-style" cottages. While these cottages are privately owned, Bay View offers extensive summer activities that are open to the public including a dynamic music festival, theater arts program, an internationally renowned lecture series, recreational programs, educational classes and religious services. Bay View is a National Historic Landmark and embodies the spirit of the Chautauqua Movement.

Sky Bridge Michigan

Welcomed to Boyne Mountain Resort in 2022, SkyBridge Michigan is renowned as the world's longest timber towered pedestrian suspension bridge. The year-round attraction is accessible by chairlift ride to the summit of the ski hill and at 118-feet high and 1,200-feet long you will experience breathtaking valley views for a while at either the SkyBridge Food Truck or the Eagle's Nest restaurant.

Lavender Hill Farm

Lavender Hill Farm, located in Boyne City, invites visitors of all ages to explore the farm and experience the sight, scent, and taste of lavender - right from the bud.

Take a guided golf cart tour, visit the gift shop, or take part in one of the many activities and events on the farm. From Lunch & Lavender meals to Movie Nights, Lavender Fest Fridays, The Series Concerts, and the ability to host private events, Lavender Hill Farm has a lot to offer. Guided tours are available from early May through late October, though the farm typically sees their 'peak' bloom season in July. It's a beautiful (and fragrant!) destination to visit throughout the season.

Kilwins Chocolate Kitchen

Kilwins is a local sweets store that serves high-quality chocolates, ice cream, and confections. The original Kilwins was opened in downtown Petoskey in 1947, and since then it has expanded opening over 160 franchise locations in 28 states. Make no mistake though, Petoskey is home to the original! The Kilwins Chocolate Kitchen is located in Petoskey offers a firsthand look at the way these sweets are made - make sure to go on a Chocolate Tour, too!
