Charlevoix is a small lakeside town with a year round population of around 3,000 residents. The town is a summer destination for urban residents of Michigan looking for a quiet vacation by the lake. In the downtown area, pretty streets are lined with flowers, with Lake Charlevoix glistening in the background. Not many people drive from destination to destination here, as the lay of the land was made for walking. Restaurants, shops and art galleries abound on the main downtown streets, while lighthouses, beaches and parks surround the perimeter. |

Huron National Forest is a popular destination for cross-country skiers, backpackers, hunters, and fisherman. The forest is complete with a visitor’s center, camping sites, trails, and wildlife areas. The Au Sable River flows through the forest and is full of trout, salmon, bass, walleye and steelhead. The River Road Scenic Byway runs for 22 miles along the southern bank of the river. |

Manistee National Forest is located between Manistee and Muskegon. It contains nearly a half million acres of beaches and woods, as well as the Pine and Pere Marquette Rivers. The Manistee River Trail is a ten-mile route along the east bank of the Manistee River. Trout and salmon populate the waters and the navigable part of the river stretches on for over forty miles. The Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area encompasses nearly 3,500 acres of dunes and dune forest. |
